Share-Ride & Shuttle Services
- "PSC"
On-call, Door-To-Door, Shuttle Service
shuttle van: Airport Shuttles
are demand-responsive common
carriers of passengers: i.e., they are required to serve the general
public. They are classified as Passenger Stage Corporations -
certified to operate under a Certificate of Public Convenience and
Necessity (PSC-certificate). The California based shuttle companies
on this website are certified and regulated by the California Public
Utilities Commission (PUC), to transport unrelated parties between
such places as airports, et al, and cities /communities:
share-ride in the same vehicle but pay your own fare. The most
c common equipment used is the mini-van. They are driven by
professional drivers, and their fares are usually less than one may
expect to pay for a limousine or taxicab. The limitations of
their services, conditions under which they are required to provide
service and the specific-flat-rate fares they must charge are all
stated in their authorized tariffs: you may ask to view the tariff
for accuracy in fares. One distinctive feature about
shuttles is that they may display a
destination sign on the front of the vehicle: a marquee of their
general direction or destination on the roof: see also

Scheduled "PSC" Bus Services
scheduled bus:
These are licensed to operate
on a specific timetable or schedule,
using luxurious buses, to transport passengers on a regular route.
Like the on-call, door-to-door, shuttles they provide share-ride
services, charge tariff based fixed fares, but operate only on a
regular route transporting you and other business professionals,
tourists, etc., Use them if your trip to the airport
begins at or is close to their scheduled stops: they do not
serve individual homes. They are probably the least expense,
comfortable, means to get to and from the airport. |

City-To-City "PSC" Express Shuttle
county-to-county:
This is a relatively new
service
alternative to both the on-call, door-to-door and
regularly scheduled services described above. They offer
on-call service with limited stops in pre-approved cities
specified in their tariffs.

Taxicabs
are licensed by
individual cities or city governmental
entities. They may only pick up passengers within the city
where they are franchised. Like limousines and car-for-hire
described above, they offer private chauffeured
transportation, for about the same total price for a
somewhat lower quality of service. Their fares are based on
a meter which calculates the charges for the trip. |
